Calvin Klein’s Spring 2027 Show Was Veronica Leoni’s Thesis. It Turned Out to Be HerClosing Statement

Calvin Klein Collection showed Spring/Summer 2027 on September 11, 2026, at Terminal Warehouse in Manhattan, during New York Fashion Week’s September 2026 (SS27) season — and the review has aged in fast-forward. Reports have since confirmed that creative director Veronica Leoni is leaving the house after roughly two years and four seasons spent rebuilding its runway business from zero. What looked like a thesis show now reads as her closing statement.

Terminal Warehouse and the De Maria sculptures

The setting did half the talking. Terminal Warehouse — a block-long brick monolith on Eleventh Avenue, completed in 1891 — held three floor sculptures by Walter De Maria, with guests moving among them before the show. The soundtrack, built by Kid Harpoon, threaded Laurie Anderson and Solange. If you wanted a one-line definition of what “American minimalism” means in 2026, that production brief was it: industrial bones, conceptual art, downtown voices.

Nothing screamed, everything resolved

The clothes worked the house’s foundational vocabulary — the coat, the shirt, tailoring, the trouser, the pencil skirt, the slip — in proportions pulled longer and narrower, or cinched hard at the waist. Tailoring ran thin and crisp in cotton and lightweight wool: a slim three-button cotton suit on one end, a broader-shouldered jacket built for layering on the other. Nothing screamed. Everything resolved.

Minimalism is the easiest genre to fake and the hardest to finish. The difference shows up in the resolve of a shoulder line, the exit where a slip dress holds its architecture in motion. Four seasons in, Leoni’s Calvin Klein had stopped quoting the 1990s and started speaking in its own tense.

The front row — Rosalía, Teyana Taylor, Sadie Sink, Pamela Anderson — was dressed almost entirely in Collection and the brand’s other lines, which is its own kind of progress report. Two years ago there was no Collection to dress anyone in.

The Leoni era, in four seasons

Here is the uncomfortable math. Leoni was hired to restart a runway operation that had been dark since Raf Simons left in December 2018, and in four seasons she built a recognizable, disciplined, genuinely wearable language for the most famous minimalist name in American fashion. Spring 2027 was the most complete version of it. Then the industry’s revolving door did what it does.

Whoever inherits the house inherits this collection as the benchmark — and inherits a question, too: whether Calvin Klein wants a designer’s Calvin Klein or a marketing department’s. For four seasons, briefly, it had the former.
