Issey Miyake

Miyake’s inventions became categories of their own: garment pleating perfected in the late 1980s and spun into Pleats Please, the A-POC (“A Piece of Cloth”) system that engineered whole garments from a single tube of fabric, and the Bao Bao bag’s geometric mesh. His black turtleneck, ordered by the hundred for Steve Jobs, became the most famous uniform in technology.

The house he left runs as a design laboratory more than a fashion brand — research teams, engineering-led studios, and Paris shows that unfold like gentle demonstrations, garments dancing, floating, or unfolding on the body. Under Kondo, the line continues the founder’s core proposition: clothing as a technology of joy, made from one piece of cloth and the space it leaves the body to move.
