Anrealage
Kunihiko Morinaga founded Anrealage in Tokyo in 2003 — the name fusing “a real,” “unreal,” and “age” — and has shown in Paris since 2014. The house is defined by technology-driven textiles, above all photochromic fabrics that change colour under light, with Morinaga — a Mainichi Grand Prize laureate — as founder and creative director.
Profile
AnrealageMorinaga works like a materials scientist with a couture atelier: beyond the signature UV-reactive fabrics, the house has built collections around garments that change under heat, dresses composed of hundreds of geometric patchwork pieces, and silhouettes inflated into perfect spheres. Each show is structured as a single experiment staged live — lights come up, and the entire collection transforms in front of the audience.
The work has crossed into the wider culture repeatedly: Beyoncé opened dates of her Renaissance World Tour in a color-shifting Anrealage look, and a collaboration with Fendi reimagined the Baguette bag in photochromic form. Two decades in, Anrealage remains the Paris calendar’s clearest case that spectacle and genuine textile innovation can be the same gesture.
