Givenchy

Founded by Hubert de Givenchy in 1952, the LVMH-owned house is synonymous with aristocratic French elegance — the Bettina blouse, its four-G emblem, and the enduring Audrey Hepburn wardrobe. Sarah Burton, who led Alexander McQueen from 2010 to 2023, became Givenchy’s creative director and second female couturier; since her 2025 debut she has re-centered the house on sharp tailoring and a modern feminine line.

Profile

Givenchy

Hubert de Givenchy’s founding gesture was separates — the Bettina blouse democratizing couture attitude — but his legend is a friendship: Audrey Hepburn, whose little black dress in Breakfast at Tiffany’s made Givenchy shorthand for refined glamour for half a century. The house later became a proving ground for British talent, with John Galliano and Alexander McQueen both passing through before its 2000s reinventions under Riccardo Tisci’s gothic romanticism.

Burton arrives with the deepest couture credentials of her generation — thirteen years steering McQueen, and the designer of a royal wedding dress watched by billions. Her Givenchy has been received as a return to substance: rigorous tailoring, corsetry softened into wearability, and a woman-led reading of a house that has spent decades being defined by the women it dressed.
