Chloé
Founded in Paris in 1952 by Gaby Aghion, who coined luxury prêt-à-porter as an alternative to stiff couture, Chloé is synonymous with a romantic, unforced femininity — blouses, broderie, and 1970s bohemian ease. Chemena Kamali, a two-time alumna of the house’s studio, was appointed creative director in late 2023 and has led a warmly received revival of its boho codes.

ChloéAghion, an Egyptian-born rebel in postwar Paris, did something radical: she made beautiful clothes ready to wear, presented over breakfast at Café de Flore, and hired young talents to design them — most famously Karl Lagerfeld, whose Chloé years defined 1970s French dressing, and later a young Stella McCartney and Phoebe Philo. The house has always been a finishing school for fashion’s next generation.
Kamali, who worked in the Chloé studio under both Philo and Clare Waight Keller, returned with a thesis the market was waiting for: the blouse, the ruffle, the 70s sunset palette, worn loose and alive. Her debut was greeted as a homecoming, re-centering the Richemont-owned house on the easy, feminine glamour Aghion invented — prêt-à-porter as liberation, not compromise.
