Gabriela Hearst
Uruguayan-born, New York-based Gabriela Hearst launched her namesake label in 2015, rooting luxury tailoring and knitwear in materials from her family’s ranch in Paysandú and a rigorous sustainability practice. She served as creative director of Chloé from 2020 to 2023 while continuing to build her own house, which shows on the Paris calendar.
Profile
Gabriela HearstHearst grew up working her family’s sheep and cattle ranch, and the label runs on that supply chain’s honesty — merino from Paysandú, deadstock fabrics, and knitwear hand-worked by artisan cooperatives. In 2019 she staged what was billed as the first carbon-neutral runway show, and at Chloé she drove the house to B Corp certification, making sustainability a boardroom fact rather than a press release.
The clothes themselves argue that responsibility and luxury are the same discipline: double-face cashmere coats, sculptural leather, and tailoring built to be kept for decades. Her Paris shows draw a clientele — and a political class — that wears the label as a statement of values.
