It started at 430 King’s Road: the boutique Westwood ran with Malcolm McLaren — at its most notorious named SEX — dressed the Sex Pistols and gave punk its uniform of bondage trousers, safety pins, and provocation. Westwood then executed fashion’s great pivot, mining the Wallace Collection and historical dress to subvert tailoring from the inside: the mini-crini, heroic corsetry, tartan worn as insurrection.

Made a Dame by the establishment she spent a career baiting, Westwood turned her final decades toward climate activism, using her own runways as protest sites. Kronthaler — her husband, collaborator of over three decades, and now the house’s designer — carries both inheritances forward: the cut and the cause.
